Maltings on Carlton Road, late C19. 3 storey with many C20 additions. Derelict. (1)
1852 malthouse and kiln. Pale pink/creamy grey brick, slate roof. 3 storeys including basement; a very complex unit. In poor repair with many later additions, but no substantial alterations. Now derelict but last used by Edward Sutcliffe Ltd Maltsters and Associated British Maltsters. Built in 1852 and then capable of steeping 300 quarters every 4 days, for 9 months of the year. (2)
A substantial 19th century industrial structure consisting of a building complex dominated by four large processing rooms, which were associated with ten smaller support rooms. After the initial phase of construction significant alterations to the complex took place internally and externally during the late 19th and early 20th century, including subdividing the building layout to incorporate new rooms and machinery. Demolished mid 20th century. Subsequently, a later maltkiln complex was built during the second half of the 20th century. By the late 20th century this later concrete maltkiln complex fell into disuse and was also demolished. (3)
