Full Description

Watermill, late C18. Original stone built structure much added to in recent years. Previously known as Beard's Mill. The dam was drained before the last war and the ground has now been built on. The mill house stands nearby and there is also a short row of millworkers cottages, though both these are now in poor condition. ... The mill may originally have been built for industrial purposes (no evidence available). The mill dam was fed by a streamlet that flowed into the Ryton near Lady Lea. (02/08/1963). (1)
3 storey rectangular building in coursed rubble sandstone with dressed quoins. A 4th storey added in concrete "stone" blocks C20. Premises now derelict. Probably on an early site. Millers of "Major Oak Flour". (4)
