Full Description

SK 650748 - the deserted Med village of Normanton in Bothamsall, listed under "villages now lost, but linked with another village in 1334 tax list". (1)
Extensive perambulation and local enquiry in the proximity of Normanton Larches Farm (grid ref (1)), revealed no surface indication or local knowledge of an early village. Deep boring operations are now taking place in this area but the engineers report no untoward surface disturbance. (2)
NGR for Normanton Grange deserted village amended - as above. (3) (4)
Normanton is Normentone, "farm of the Norsemen", in DB. The former hamlet is now represented on the map by Normanton Inn. (5)
