Full Description

2 dykes ran from the Lake Dam to near W Bridge, running above and parallel with the R Poulter. They carried water led off the lake through sluices (which still survive) which was used to flood the water meadows regularly to improve the growth of grass. The meadows were also improved by the use of land drains. The flood dykes survive at Carburton, further upstream on the Welbeck Estate, but at Hardwick they have been filled in. Culvert and drains survive - the water meadows are now cultivated. (1)
