Full Description

Two irregular shaped features which could be the corner of a moat. First described as "moat" on (1), but unnamed on the 1885 edition. (1)
A shallow section of a moat, but very wide with a stone wall on the N (W?) side and some massive stonework on the gateway or stile at the NW end of the wall. A poor specimen of a moat. (2)
Not a moat but a large fishpond, the E end of which has been destroyed by farming activity. The pond now has a max depth of 1.6m and is surrounded by pasture, it was originally fed by a swift running brook to the S. (3)
This is not a moat, but part of a series of fishponds which have largely been ploughed out leaving only this much disfigured by later farmworks. The full extent of the fishponds extend at least 60m W and 200m E of the scheduled area. The walls referred to are the "enclosure" walls coming downhill from the church. Ridge and furrow of recent date occupy the floor of the pond. (4)
A sunken field which seems to have more to do with either railway drainage or clay extraction - I very much doubt if it is a moated site. The stonework in the field wall could have come from anywhere. (5)
Morph: 156.5.1 fishpond. (7)
Descheduled 1994 - was SAM 49.
