The monument includes the earthwork and buried remains of the deserted areas of West Markam medieval settlement, a moated site and a sample of the associated open field system…first documented in the Domesday Book of 1086 where it is recorded that the village, at that time was called ‘Westmarcham’. The monument survives as a series of earthworks and buried remains to the south of the church. (3)
