Thorney is a thriving and expanding village. The earthworks noted above are recent gravel working in the SW, random diggings and draining or enclosure ditches. No house sites or clear traces of former occupation could be seen. (5)
The large pasture field between Home Farm Lane and Thorney Hall contains a number of earthworks, some already recorded on the OS 1:10 000. AP's and field inspection indicates that the earthworks are both more extensive and complex than presently indicated on the SMR map. A substantial L-shaped ditch continues northwards of the line of the ditch recorded by the OS and a number of lesser gulley form irregular rectinlinear divisions within the area contained by this substantial ditch.
