Full Description

Almshouses, 1666, in use. Today consists of a number of cottages for OAPs. It also has a chapel with dark wood fittings and 2 stained glass windows, one donated by Wm Becket, 1876, the other in 1877 by his brothers. Originally the structure was a manor house owned by John Darrel. It has been partly rebuilt in a style reminiscent of Gothic architecture. The men who live there rent free receive (50p) per week from the trinity fund (01/05/1968). (1)
In a will dated 11/11/1664, John Darrel of West Retford Hall instructed trustees to turn his house into a hospital for 16 poor and feeble men. Throsby (1797) described the "charming buildings which are now erecting" (3)
