Full Description

Smithy, C19, disused. Single storey "L" shaped brick building adjoining dwelling house to W. Pantile roof supported on tie beam with king posts and struts. Used now as stroehouse for adjacent dwelling house. Last used as smithy in 1940s. 2 chambers - standing bay (parallel to road) and forge (right angle to road). Standing bay: 20ft x 12ft brick floor, double doors (6ft wide), direct access to road. Lit by 1 window in S wall. 4 tying rings still exist in N wall. Forge: 30ft x 12ft, 2 hearths, dilapidated. Lit by window S wall, 2 windows E wall. Double doors N wall, door and hatch N wall. Cement floor. Cooling tanks not found. Condition poor (09/07/1968). (1)
