The N side is all new, by WS Weatherley and Jones 1891-2; the S side goes with the tower. Inside, the N arcade with circular piers and low moulded capitals was originally EE. Font Norman, with a small kind of lozenge frieze at the top. Altar table Elizabethan. Small C14 and C15 fragments of stained glass in the tower window. St Martin's Church is now redundant. (2)
Paragraph DELETED FROM HERE - JB (3)
According to an entry in the Acts Book in 1638 the church was in a poor state. In 1865 Sir Stephen Glynne described the church thus: ‘A small church having a nave and chancel with a western tower and south porch. There was once a north aisle, and the arcade may be traced in the north wall… The tower is a very nice plain one of Perpendicular character. (4)
