Full Description
Site of a Ro hut, 1/4 mile SW of Wood's Farm, was discovered by ploughing and excavation revealed a cobble floor of a former wooden structure c 30ft in diameter. From the occupation debris on the floor a quantity of coarse pottery was recovered, also the base of a samian cup stamped "AT TILLIN", 2 bronze enamel brooches and 20 bronze coins of C4. The finds are now in SCM. Surface finds of Ro pottery etc in neighbouring fields suggest a larger settlement with evidence of iron working on a fairly extensive scale. (3)
Present location of finds as above, the site is now under a grass crop and there are no surface indications of the excavation. Perambulation produced scattered sherds of C4 grey ware but no industrial material. (4)
