Full Description
Manor House. Brick and stone dressings, 1689. Symmetrical fenestration is the only thing in which the late date comes out. Otherwise still the plain undecorated gables of the Jacobean time and still mullions. Demolished in 1977. (1)
Stapleford Manor was originally a timber building dating from C13. At one time it had belonged to Newstead Abbey. George Jackson rebuilt the Manor in 1689. It was a double pile … more or less square on plan, with four rooms on the ground floor. … timber framed partition walls inside. Later alterations and additions to the building did not obscure the original design. The Manor stood on Church Street near its junction with Pinfold Lane. It was demolished in February 1970, although a listed building because no suitable purchaser could be found for it. The site is now occupied by modern housing. (2)
