Tramway, to Broxtowe Colliery. No signs of any tramway ie no sleepers, lines etc. Path taken by tramway completely overgrown, only a pathway now shows the original route of the tramway. Here the tramway passes by the side of a cornfield. In some places the route passes straight through a field of wheat (10/07/1968). (1)
Extensive remains can also be seen of a later (than 1833) tramway which ran from the Swingate area through Chilwell Dam and Broxtowe to Cinderhill in its initial development. (3)
(An earlier line from Babington to Cinderhill) was soon superseded by a new line further north, rising steeply towards a winding engine near Strelley Mill, which is shown on the Edge estate plan of 1840. The new section left the original line west of Spring Wood and joined it again beyond Chilwell Dam, just short of the newly sunk Broxtowe pit shafts. (4)
