Full Description
A boundary cross is mentioned in the Sherwood Forest Perambulations of 1218 and 1227. It was situated on the high gound which came from Bollesovere, where the road from Kirkby to Blidworth was intersected by that from Nottingham to Bolsover. One of the Newstead boundary crosses ? (1) (2)
The siting above is not exactly clear. Whilst the Kirkby- Blidworth road is certain, that from Nottingham to Bolsover is not so obvious. Ancient route perhaps by Hucknall and Skegby. This route crosses the Kirkby-Blidworth road at SK 507760, in the new town centre of Kirkby in Ashfield. No cross has survived here. (3)
