Full Description

The bounds of the soil and wood of the Archbishop of York, in right of his manor at Southwell, are given in "the Forest Book of Mr Lowe of Southwell". They include "... going SW (from the head of Raynwathe) unto Chapman's Cross and from thence towards the E betwixt the N and the S, by a way unto Swine Cote Dale Head ... " (No date is given - pre-Dissolution implied.) (1)
Chapman's Cross in neighbourhood of Blidworth crosses. Bounds of property belonging to Newstead Abbey (Patent roll 24 Ed II 1350-1) include "Chapman Crosse". (2)
