At the end of Bath Lane is a holy well dedicated to the Virgin Mary. About 1823 it was used as a public bath. The well or spring is in the grounds adjoining Mr Goldie's mill (Bath Mill ?). (1)

Goldie's Mill still stands at SK 54796171 (name painted on roof). There has been much modern development in this area and there is now no surface evidence of a former well; local enquiry also negative. (3)

Email correspondence from Mr R. Parish [25-MAR-2013] describes the well as extant and as a chamber 2.5 metres square with a vaulted roof. The interior undressed local sandstone stone and rendered. Rear has a dressed limestone tank 75cm by 107 cm by 75 cm deep. A brick wall has been built at some point in front of it. Fed by channels at the back with a conduit below and draining into the river 4 metres away. Access by four steps with the top three reconstructed.Overgrown and covered with ivy with some evidence of damage. A 20 metre flagged causeway leads to the well from lane above giving access from nearby Bath Mill. (4)
