Full Description
Leland writes of a park at Worksop as being c 6 or 7 miles in circumference, and belonging to the Earl of Shrewsbury. "Wirsop" is noticed as a park, when it belonged to Thomas de Furnivall, in the 29th of Ed III (1356). (1) (2)
The earliest mention of Worksop Park ... occurs in the deed of Richard de Lovetot, c 1161. (3)
During investigation of Worksop Manor and during perambulation of Manor Park and adjoining lands, no trace of a park pale was encountered. Enquiries at the estate office were negative. (4)
John Harrison's survey of Worksop 1636 mentions Old Lodge and Old Parke to N of present park - grid ref for this general area. (5)
