Full Description

Demolished 1978.
A large C17 or early C18 house of 3 storeys, 7 windows, some with C18 sashes, but most with C19 casements in original openings. Brick plinth, bands and gable ends. A small central gable with 3 moulded stone finials. A projecting rectangular porch with C19 door. Old tile roof. (1)
"One cot and two closes", belonging to Lady Anne Markham. (2)
First mention is in a lease of 1579 stating that the farm building was of stone, timber and thatch and that a new bay had been added. Tenant licenced to sell beer 1675. In about 1700 a new farmhouse wes erected, serving as farm, inn and stables through the C18. The Gadsby family bought it in the 1940s. (3)
Feasibility study for conversion, includes photos and plans. (4)
Dendro dates suggest construction in first half of C18. (6)
It was the last remaining of the seven guide houses for Sherwood Forest. (7)
