Full Description
Wallingwells Park has a wall on 3 sides and not on the 4th. In the grant (founding nunnery, between 1130 and 1154) Wallingwells is described as a place in the park of Carlton, and was called St Mary's de Parco. I suggest that the present park wall is on the site of the old wall of Carlton Park at the time of the charter. (1)
Park at Carlton in Lindrick of Robert Lupo, first mention 1231. (2)
No evidence of the c C12 Wallingwells Park was seen during fieldwork. The later park (probably C18) delimited by a stone wall, is now under cultivation. (3)
See M4763 for nunnery, MNT26620 for later Landscape Park.
