Full Description

Site of a Scots gun battery directed against Newark in the Civil War. Three works in a line each containing a cannon connected by a trency to a fourth work behind. (1)
The indicated site occupies a local low lying spur with good all round visibility but no defensive attributes. Now under pasture, there is heavy nettle growth but no surface evidence of a former archaeological feature or features. Newark Castle is within C17 cannon range. (2)
