Full Description

Site of a dam built by the Royalist defenders of Newark during the Civil War siege. The dams were protected by bulwarks on the Island. (1)
No trace of this dam is now evident. A non surveyable amorphous earthwork at SK 79864 54483 may have originally been one of the bulwarks, but heavy growth, mutilation, and the possibility of its later use as a flood bank all tend to make precise classification impossible. (2)
See M5667 for second dam.
