Full Description
Site of one of 2 dams built by Major General Poyntz during the 1646 siege of Newark in the Civil War. They were intended to cut off the water to the mills at Newark. (The second dam was on the River Devon but cannot be sited.) (1)
Although at the time of investigation the river level was extremely low, no traces of a dam were to be seen. No additional information was encountered relating to a dam on the Devon. (2)
