Full Description

Palacehall was one of the 3 prebends of Norwell, each with a moated manor house. Palacehall still stands but is divided up into tenements. (1)
At SK 7689 6141 there is a feature which could be the remains of a moat, adjacent to the property described as Palis Hall. (2) (3)
Slight traces of a moat are visible at the indicated site. Palis Hall has early stone foundations and walling brick topped. The building is part unoccupied and in very poor condition. (4)
No change since field report of 1969. (5)
[A] moated manor at the prebend of Norwell Pallishall … Remains of a late medieval timber-framed and stone house, with a C17 timber-framed addition: at the time of writing [1979], in urgent need of restoration. (6)
Pair of adjoining houses. C16, C17, C18, with C19 and C20 additions and alterations. (7)
It is partly derelict now and stands in the remains of an old orchard and overgrown garden, where vestiges of surrounding banks and ditches are discernable, suggesting that once water may have been diverted into them from the nearby stream. The dwelling, L shaped, has undergone much alteration since its Tudor, or maybe earlier days……Inside, amid the 18th century alterations when it was divided into tenements, much of the old timber work and 'wattle and daub' can be seen. (8)
A total of 8 samples were obtained in 1995 from oak timbers in a wide range of location at this site. 3 samples were given a felling date of 1650. (9)
