Full Description
Site of Crawford's Sconce, a Paliamentarian earthwork covering Balderton Lane. A rectangular fort with 2 angle bastions facing Newark and a single central bastion at the rear. (1)
Indicated site now occupied by an established housing estate; no remains exist. The situation commands the line of march S from Newark. (2)
