Full Description
At Laneham a manor house belonging to the Archbishop of York and containing a chapel, listed under "vanished churches of which the sites are known". (1)
Archbishop Corbridge died in this house, 22/09/1304. (2)
A farmhouse on the river bank is on the site of (the Markham's manor house), but its cellars are said to have belonged to the still older palace of the Archbishops of York on this spot, in which Thomas de Corbridge died in 1304. (3)
Local enquiries were negative regarding the site of the former manor house. There is no mention in the parish church of any local posessions of the See of York. Mr BA Minnitt has done some private research ... and is inclined to think that the original source is dubious. (4)
