Monument record M6002 - Pillbox at Felley Mill

Summary

PILLBOX (Second World War). The site of a World War II pillbox that is set at the end of a road junction with a wood behind. It was constructed between 1939 and 1945 and was in a good condition during the Defence of Britain survey. This pillbox is opposite the junction of Felley Mill Lane North and Felley Mill Lane South. Both these roads are minor roads and this seems a strange location for a pillbox. The anti ricochet wall is missing as are all the concrete shelves. Hexagonal with five main gun embrasures and two covering the entrance. Bricks forming a square in the centre of the roof, square (approx 18in) in floor below. Felley Mill Lane (north), Underwood, Selston.
