Building stone from the Magnesian limestone outcrop, part of the Cadeby Formation of Late Permian Age, has been extensively quarried at the Mansfield Woodhouse quarries situated to the north of Mansfield, and bisected by the Len Valley Railway Extension of 1870. The quarries were the first to supply the new Houses of Parliament after 1839. The quarries are still worked on a small scale. (3)
