Full Description

"Soss" shown on River Idle. (1)
As early as 1626 the famous drainage engineer Vermuyden was involved in this area realigning the River Idle as part of his drainage works. By 1764 the first Misterton Soss (sluice) had been constructed on the River Idle just upstearm of West Stockwith to drain the Everton, Gringley and Misterton carrs to the south of the River Idle. (2)
