Full Description
Ro occupation from the C1 to C4 is represented by post holes, pits, gullies and stone wall foundations suggesting 3 phases of buildings. Of note is a tesselated floor made of samian tesserae associated with the second phase of building. Finds from the excavation include ... Ro pottery and metalwork, late C3 and C4 coins. (1)
A bronze coin from the reign of the emperor Maximianus, 286 - 305 AD. The reverse depicts Abundantia, the God of abundance and plenty. (2)
Stone footings of a building, apparently unrelated to the later church, were located. Parts of the foundations of two lengths of wall were uncovered together with the remains of a disturbed tessellated floor, which had consisted of white limestone and red samian tesserae. These may have formed a mosaic. (3)
