Full Description

A moat still exists a few hundred yards to the north, enclosing a raised mound about 50 paces square, where masonry is said to have been found. This may have been the site of an earlier building than that of the C15. (1)
Moat - site of old hall in C17. (4) [contradicted by (1) & (6)]
The remains of a subrectangular homestead moat with 2 contemporary fishponds running NE from the N apex. Of the original moat - which measured some 300m square - only 3 arms remain, the S ditch having been infilled. The island rises c 2.0m above the present water level; much surface disturbance is evident but no building remains were noted. (5)
The exact site of the early Med manor house is not traceable from the documents but it may have occupied this site, where a deep moat surrounds a rectangular enclosure of c 40 m x 30 m with an entrance to the E. 1448 manor house built to SE. (6)
See M 1366 for Hall and cross refs, M 8084 for further fishponds.
