Full Description

Gateford Hall ... is modernised out of a portion, and occupies the site of the ancient residence of the Lascelles family; part of the kitchen (remains). John de Gateford died there in 1346. (1)
(The old hall) is represented by the ancient farmhouse which was formed out of its remains and stands near the road. (2)
Portions of the earlier house incorporated in the present fabric include 2 windows in the N front, one lighting the cellar; the other, of C14 date, is blocked. Within the house, at the W end, are a Tudor fireplace and some early roof timbers. (3)
Long, low house with a coursed rubble façade, altered in the C17. Remains of the medieval manor house: the stone walling, internal timber framing and part of the moat. (4)
Named 'Gateford Hall'. (5)
Hall house on moated site. C16, refronted mid C17. Interior has timber framed hall with 4 bay posts, one pair with moulded tie beam and arch braces. Hall has C16 fireplace with chamfered Tudor arched opening. E end has C17 dog leg oak staircase with landing and square newel. (6)
