Full Description

The site had no permanent owner until its purchase by the Taylors in Charles I's reign and from them it passed in 1698 to the Whites who lived there for more than 200 years. In about 1828 great alterations were made. The plan of 1682 is more suggestive of a monastic quadrangle than is the present remoulded layout. (1) (2) (3)
Wallingwells is a large mansion now divided into flats. It comprises a main block of the late C18 to which an E front in pseudo-C17 style was added in the early C19. (? Nunnery walls) are probably incorporated in the late C18 fabric. (4)
Sir Richard Pipe, a Lord Mayor of London, bought the property in 1578. His, or a slightly later, house is shown on a plan of 1682. H-plan with a little internal courtyard. Façades … on the W and S look early to mid C18, probably added by John White who succeeded in 1732. In 1828 … a new entrance façade was made on the E. Subdivided into four houses in 1926. (5)
Country house, now divided into 7 dwellings. Early C17. (6)
Named 'The Hall'. (7)
See M4763 for nunnery.
