Full Description

A part which appears to have been the S wall of the Carthusian church yet remains. (1)
To the W (of the Prior's house) are 2 upstanding walls of the main church. The S wall contains remnants of a traceried window and on its S exterior, bases for a lean-to (?) cloister type structure. The latter now incorporated into modern farm buildings. Large stout timbers once supporting the remains are now rotted at their bases and offer no support to the structures. Present masonry likely to collapse unless works are undertaken soon. (2)
The first building to be erected. It was a plain building in one span, without aisles or arcades... A Carthusian church consisted of two quires, a western one for the use of the lay brethren employed upon the farm, and an eastern one for the use of the monks…. No signs of an altar base have been found, and it still remains to be ascertained if the church extended, as is probable, further east. (3)
At the centre of the site are the remains of the monastic church, of coursed and squared rubble with ashlar dressings (description of remains). (4)
