Full Description

The 1637 map of Rufford shows a body of water immediately S of the house, named the Great Dam, with an extension to the west named the Swing Dam…. both now dry. The spring which in 1637 fed the Great Dam, and which used to be known locally as "Fail me never", has dried up completely as a consequence of pumping arrangements made to drain Rufford colliery. (1)
