Full Description
In the C18 the 5th Lord Byron built mock forts and a castle on its banks and kept a 20 gun ship and other vessels for mimic naval warfare. (1)
There is a "ruin" at the waterfall but this is almost certainly a folly probably occupying the site of the Med mill. (2)
At this point is an ornamental waterfall led through the pond bay by a modern sluice. In the face of the pond bay is a stone structure with a passage designed to allow visitors to stand behind the waterfall. The walling contains re-used worked and moulded stones including a blocked, three-light, mullioned window. No trace of a Med watermill was seen. (3)
See M8939 for Priory, M8293 for house, M8938 for lake.
