Full Description

The nave of the conventual church remains, the rest of its plan having been recovered. A thorough restoration was undertaken in 1845 and again in 1922 ... the parlour remains restored as a vestry ... The nave is in use for public worship and it is hoped to erect a choir and a central tower. (1) (2)
The extant remains of M5159 are now incorporated into the church and the property of St Mary and St Cuthbert. They comprise of the nave of the conventual church, now in use for public worship. St Mary's Chapel now joined to the S transept and re-named the Lady Chapel … The former parlour is now within the modern church. Extensive restoration and rebuilding is now in progress and is nearing completion. (8)
On the N wall near the vestry door is a glass-covered niche containing a skull pierced by an arrowhead. (9)
The Lady Chapel lay roofless, ruined and detached from the C16 until the C20, divided from the nave by a wall built in 1564-7 and replaced in Rundbogenstil ['round arched style'] by R. Nicholson of Lincoln in 1845-9. Sir Harold Breakspear restored the chapel in 1922 and, in 1929, joined it to the nave with a S transept, reconstructed on the strength of, on the whole, reliable evidence. In 1935 he added a N transept, and in 1966-74 Laurence King provided a new E end. (10)
