Thatch(ed) Cottage, The Green. Roof timbers dated (one timber in roof dated to mid-C13th). Tree ring estimate of date: 1404. (1)
Timber frame construction, encased in rubble limestone and brick with a gables roof partly of thatch and part pantiles. The earliest part of the building is an aisled timber-framed construction of at least five bays, probably built as a barn. Converted into two cottages in the late 16th century with the addition of smoke-hood fire places and partitions. (2)
12 timber samples (cores) were collected in 1991. 9 samples were from an earlier phase and 3 from the later one. Earliest phases 1st phase felling date is estimated in 1404 or 1405, while 2nd phase felling date is around 1700, not later than 1705. (3)
