Full Description

Open hall with two base and one spere truss. Extensively sampled and dated [to] 1296. (1)
Phase 1: This comprised a two-bay open hall with a common rafter roof, a central base-cruck truss and one certain and one probable aisled end truss. Some evidence also survives for a third bay, presumably for service. The construction is relatively simple, using passing braces. This phase has been dendro-dated to 1294-6; the felling date of spring 1296 for several common rafters suggests that this was the year of construction. (2)
Later Phases: Modernisation took place in stages from the C16 onwards. This included: flooring the hall; removing the east aisle and walling off the west aisle in the new main room; inserting a lobby entrance, stair and back to back fireplaces; removing the lower part of Truss 3 to create a large kitchen and adjoining dairy. Possibly c.1700 the front wall was rebuilt in brick. The house was a freehold farm in 1773. (2)
The house was reroofed using the original tiles in 1975. A blue brick damp course was inserted in most of the external walls abd some internal walls . (3).
Water was originally ontained from two wells, one in the yard near to a back door and dairy before 1965 and the other, now concreted over, behind the garage. (3)
Dendro-dated from 16 samples, 13 dated, felling date of 1294-6. (4)
Images of Student Survey card attached. (5)
