Full Description

Earthbanks enclosing a rough oval. (1)
Promontory camp with single encircling ditch. Evidence for Ro occupation but, by plan, probably of IA origin. In dense undergrowth on the hill above the main road, enclosing a promontory of c 4 acres. On the east they consist of a single large bank and denuded ditch; on the west the bank alone is visible. The shape is oval, and both situation and plan may be compared with Combs Camp. The coin and pottery (see L8201 and L9298) were found in gardens of new houses just below the east rampart. (2)
Trial excavations - no mention of the earthworks, tending to confirm the suspicion from the 6in that occupation enclosure at the site is doubtful, as the wooded area falls below the hill top on a fairly steep slope. (3) (4)
See L8201 and L9298 for Ro finds.
