In May 1879 Fox, the estate agent, wrote to Earl Cowper [in order] "to build a new cottage". Estate account books over the period April 1879 to February 1880 show that the cost of building work at "J. Whittaker's Farm premises at the Hags" totalled £255 19s 6d." (2)
