Full Description

Cottage and farmhouse. C17, early C18. (1)

21 Long Acre (formerly The Home made shop) is a Grade II, 2-storey, L-plan house. Internally there are timber beams (that were unsuitable for Dendro-dating), back- to-back fireplaces, plank doors reused wall timbers. Dating was problematic: a plinth, a floor level lower than outside, and the internal divisions appear to be medieval possible 16th century. The brick-work, L-shaped plan, internal layout and positioning of doors and windows suggest a date after 1650. 18th century alterations include changes to upper courses of bricks, insertion or replacement of a floor and re-roofing. Since then the only apparent change was the replacement of the thatched roof with pantiles. (2)
