Full Description
According to Throsby built in 1719 on the site of the manor house by Sir Nathaniel Curzon, but dated 1715 on the building. (1)
Radcliffe-on-Soar. Radulphus Sacheverell, (who died 1539) 'and his successors after him occupied the manor house for more than one hundred years. A fragment of the old manor house is incorporated in the imposing looking farmhouse which stands by the south western corner of the churchyard' (Trans. Thoroton Soc. Vol. 28, 1924, p. 19, Harry Gill) This house is now known as Manor Farm. It was built in the 1760s, a datestone 176 - was formerly visible in the front of the house. There are no known remains of an earlier house now visible. (relayed to HE by occupier of house in 1960, Mrs. Garrett, HE Field investigator comments, F1 WW 12-Jan-60) Manor Farm is a large, brick farmhouse of two storeys with an attic. An illegible datestone is masked by a later porch on the north-east front. The original twin-gabled house has later additions on the north and west. Its appearance is consistent with a mid-18th c. date. No external evidence of the earlier manor house is visible but it is possible that the house internally incorporates part of it. (HE Field investigator comments, F1 WW 12-Jan-60) Manor Farmhouse. The old manor house was pulled down by Nathaniel Curzon in 1719 and the present building erected. Grade II (2)
