C16 or C17 front wall roughcast over timber-framing. (1)
The earliest timbers have been dated by dendrochronology to 1494, but the house has of course had various alterations and additions; the decorative framing is on a small later addition. (2)
The early C16th core of the building has decorative timber framing … with a three-storey extension of c.1600 and a link block of a later date. (3)
32 samples were obtained from this building. Felling date range of 1484 to 1514 was obtained, with the likely felling date estimated as being 1494. Only 11 of the 32 samples were above the 60 ring length usually considered the minimum length for satisfactory dating. It is probable that this is too small a number of acceptable samples to date what may be a four phase building.(4)
