REASONS FOR DESIGNATION DECISION
Rectory Cottage, a former farm building of late-C18 origin, converted to domestic use in the C19 and much
altered in the C20 and early C21, is recommended for de-listing for the following principal reasons:
* Intactness: the cottage has lost a considerable amount of its original building fabric;
* Architectural interest: incremental changes have significantly eroded its local distinctiveness as a
vernacular farm building;
* Plan: the building's original internal layout has been altered over time and is now unreadable;
Historic England Advice Report 30 November 2015
* Group value: the architectural interest, historic interest and group value of the vernacular buildings
adjacent to West Retford Hall have been eroded as a result of incremental changes undertaken to Rectory Cottage.
