Full Description

A hunting lodge built to serve the east, Le Clay, division of Sherwood Forest. The new lodge built here by King John in 1210-11 at a cost of some £550 was abandoned after the forest charter of 1217. What appears to be a massive lump of medieval masonry exists in the core of the present, derelict, late C17 double-pile brick farmhouse: five bays, C18 and C19 sashes, but an original dogleg staircase with balusters. (1)
House. Late C17. Interior, east-west wall is of coursed rubble and is of an earlier build. (2)
Named 'Kingshagh'. (3)
See M4639 for Ringwork/Hunting Lodge.
