Full Description

Norwell Overhall [is] divided into the Natwest Bank and Minster Lodge. Plain ten-bay façade of 1784. Modern addition for the bank. (1)
House, now bank. c.1784, 2 storey bay window early C19, single storey bank addition c.1920. This building is part of the late C18 additions to the prebendal house of Norwell Overhall which adjoins to the right. (2)
The building has its origins as the Norwell Overhall Prebend but main the core is late 18th century in origin. Earlier material may be hidden within this core but none was observed during the survey. Following its conversion to a bank in the late 19th century a number of alterations and extensions, notably in the 1920s and 1960s, have substantially changed the appearance and layout of the building. Church Street properties numbers 9 and 11 were historically one premise and together they formed the Norwell Overhall Prebend, the largest of the three Norwell Prebends. Number 9 continued in domestic use until 1876 when it was sold to the Nottingham Banking Company before becoming a branch of the National Westminster Bank. The large single storey addition to the front and side was added in the 1920s, and the rear was substantially rebuilt in the late 1960s. In the late 1960s and early 1970s the rear outbuildings were removed and rebuilt to create a modern first floor flat which partially incorporated the first floor of the original building. The flat was used by the bank manager. A further significant refurbishment occurred in 1988. The bank closed in 2017 and has been vacant since this time.(3)
