Full Description
War memorial. 1925. By A. H. Richardson. (1) Limestone ashlar with granite plinth, bronze plaques and iron railings and lamps. Rectangular block, 2 stages, with diagonal flying butresses , 2 setoffs, with scrolled feet, domed caps and cross motifs; rectangular domed cap with moulded cornice. On each face, inscribed plaques with elliptical pediments on curved braquets. To south, panel inscribed 'to the glory of god and to the everlasting memory of the men of worksop parish who fell in the great war 1914-1918'. Similar inscribed panels on other sides. Upper stage has to west, wreath in panel inscribed 'MCMXIV''. And to east, similar wreath and panel inscribed 'MCMXVIII'. To north and south, similar inscribed panels. To north, monument commemorating the sherwood foresters regiment in the form of a lectern with chamfered base, cornice and scrolled brackets, with sloping plaque. Outside, oval kerb with dwarf railing and spiked chains. To north and south, a splayed-sided panelled pier carrying a 3 branched lamp standard. (1)
