Full Description
Town Hall, erected in 1836 by W. A. Nicholson of Lincoln in a heavy neo-classical style. (1)
Historic Graffiti was uncovered on the 3rd floor, interior of room, situated to southeast corner of the property. Area of Old Town Hall attributed to Fothergill Watson. The graffiti is of two heads, one man and one woman, both with hats. The style of the man’s hat could depicted an American Army link, the drawing is dated ‘24/12/51, with ‘1951’ recorded, also contain initials and surnames, ‘HF and J Sampson’ and finished with ‘Good Health’. There are further markings. Area covered approximately 2765 x 1820mm. Faded in places, area was decorated over with woodchip, filler and paint markings evident. Graffiti is pencil/charcoal drawings (not scratched into surface) onto plaster surface, plaster lime/gypsum/sand mix onto red brick (2).
