Full Description
Submitted 01/05/1880. Black Boy Inn, Mansfield. New Smoke Room. J. Rollinson and Son, Archt., Chesterfield. (1)
Restored under a CAP grant. Render removed from stonework; modern shopfront removed to reveal original cast iron columns. (2)
3 storey stone, possibly Mansfield Red, property, ground floor right has recessed entranceway door is 6-panelled with semi-circular fanlight, either side are protruding stone pilaster, each has recessed blank panelled with central carved stone panel and carved console brackets , to left is shop front with nearly full length panelled cornice supported on 2no. Decorative metal columns, a further panelled cornice recessed underneath, with shop front below, to left again a similar stone pilaster and console bracket. The 2no. End pilasters of the property continue on to the roof with a stepped capital and blank console bracket to parapet. Back to ground floor and above console brackets of pilasters is a full length carved stone cornice. 1st floor red stone band with 5 curved apertures for 2/2 sash windows, above stone bossed detail, above stone bands containing a deeper lighter stone band between, above red stone floor with 5 apertures with rectangular overlight below 2/2 casements, above stepped cornice and with dividing stepped pilasters above fire cornice to stone balustrade to parapet.
