Full Description

A chance find made by the late J Spaanderman in digging his garden during the period 1935-46 was a C13 lead or pewter seal matrix. This is circular with central octofoil and peripheral inscription which it is suggested can be interpreted "Seal of John de ?Huthwaite". The back bears a cross in relief, the end of one arm expanded to form a pierced lug. Diameter 23mm. It is in private possession but there is a cast in NCM. (1)
